Busy as a Bee!

I had SUCH a busy week and weekend! Rob and I were busy every night last week, with this and that. We finished panting the new bedroom, and had some final meetings with vendors for the wedding. On Thursday night of last week, we shopped for and purchased our wedding rings. I'm so excited about that! We picked out matching bands that are very simple. My engagement ring is white gold, so we decided to both get plain white gold wedding bands. Nothing fancy...no decoration...just plain gold bands. The bands we picked out are "comfort fit" bands, which means that the inside edge is rounded, making them more comfortable to wear. We both tried on "comfort fit" and regular bands, and we agreed that the "comfort fit" was indeed more "comfortable". We ordered the rings from the jeweler, and they should be in in a couple of weeks.

On Friday night, Rob and I just had a quiet evening at his apartment. I made chicken with balsamic vinegar and mushrooms for dinner, along with white rice and green beans. Mmmm...it turned out pretty well, but the chicken was a little dry. Anyone have some advice for how to cook chicken all the way through, but still have it turn out moist? I am talking about stovetop cooking. For example, in this recipe, I was to cook the chicken breasts in a pan on the stovetop "until they were cooked through...about 3 minutes on each side". Different parts of the sauce were added during the cooking process. I tried the recommended length of cooking time, but the chicken was still VERY pink through the inside. So I cooked them until they weren't pink anymore, but then they were dry.

Even if the chicken was dry, it was still relatively tasty. So we ate our dinner, then watched some TV. It was a pleasant quiet kind of evening.

On Saturday morning, I headed out early to Home Depot, where I bought new outlet covers for the three outlets in our newly painted bedroom. When we painted the downstairs, we primed and painted the outlet covers to match the walls. But over the last two years, I have noticed that the outlet covers get really scratched and scuffed, and they end up looking junky. So we decided to go with stainless steel outlet covers instead of repainting the old ones. The ones I picked out are a brushed steel look, so they are pretty and silver-toned. They look pretty good in there, and they were only $1 each.

After the Home Depot, I went up to the veterinarian to pick up a new bag of Tabby's special cat food. The first bag lasted me from December to now, so it's not too much of a pain to go get it at the vet. Now that she is very elderly, she eats a special fod that is good for her kidneys.

After all that running around on Saturday morning, I returned home to work on moving furniture. I dismantled my bed and moved the (queen sized) mattress and box spring into the new bedroom. Then I cleaned the bed frame parts really well with wood polish and reassembled them in the new room. I flopped the box spring and mattress back on the bed, and...VIOLA! My new bedroom was started. I also moved a big desk out of there The desk used to be my grandpa's. He had it at his mom's home, and then he gave it to my dad. When my dad and stepmom redid their den, I got the desk. I love it. It's big and heavy, and it's so out of style that it's back in style actually. Pretty cool, huh?

I spent a couple of hours moving furniture around and cleaning, then got ready to go shopping with my sister and my aunt. We went shoe shopping for Hilary, and dress shopping for Cindi. We found shoes for Hil, but not a dress for Cindi. I found a little black dress to replace one that I used to have, but that the drycleaner ruined and refused to acknowledge. It's a long story...I'm glad to have a new dress.

After a wonderful day of shopping with Hil and Cindi, I returned home to await the arrival of my friend Serena. She was coming down for the night, in anticipation of Sunday's bridal shower. She arrived around 8:00, and as I went to help her bring things into the house, I locked us out of the house. Rob has a key to my place, but he was in Galena, two hours away, with his dad for the weekend. So...luckily Serena had her car keys in her pocket. We hopped in her car (I was feeling quite naked without my purse) and headed for my mom's house. She has an extra key to my place. We found it on the hook in her laundry room (where she keeps extra keys) and headed back to my place. Whew!

Hilary arrived shortly after that (also to spend the night with me) and we all three sat around and had a grand ole' evening. We stayed up talking till about 1:00 in the morning, when we decided we were exhausted and wanted to hit the hay.

It was a long and busy few days! But it was a good kind of busy. That's what I keep saying these days.
