Creating Web Pages with HTML - Simplified, by IDG Books, Inc.

Image of book cover

This is a GREAT book. I used it to help me design this website. It's written in simple, but not condescending, everyday language. Step-by-step directions take the reader through the entire design process, making it very easy for a beginner to create a functional, attractive website. Each page is enahnced by full-color illustrations ranging from example pages and example code to inspirational ideas. The helpful little disk mascot is cute, but not distracting. The book is divided into 13 short chapters, catering to a wide range of users' abilities.

Very early beginners, who do not have a good working knowledge of what the internet's all about, should start reading this book from Chapter 1. In the first chapter, the book talks about the internet: how it works, what it offers, how to connect, etc.

If, like me, a person is already very comfortable online, and is ready to start learning html code, then Chapter 2 is the place to start. Here the book starts teaching the design process. Chapters 3 and 4 cover text, and Chapters 5 and 6 work with images. Chapter 7 teachers the user about links. Reading through Chapter 7 will allow anyone to create a good-looking website, complete with multiple pages, images, text treatments, and links.

For more advanced techniques, Chapters 8 through 11 cover tables, forms, sounds, videos, java applets, and style sheets. Chapter 12 talks about publishing websites, and Chapter 13 reviews html tags.

I would definitely reccommend this book to anyone who wants a simple but informative guide to creating a website.
