Family weekend at the Lake House

family on the deck

In August, my mom and Bill invited all of the famly up for a grand family weekend at the Lake House. Unfortunately, Cindi and Dick weren't able to make it, but the rest of the family was there! For Rob and me, the weekend started with a very late night on Friday. We drove the three hours up to Nekoosa after getting home from work, eatying dinner, and finnishing packing. We didn't want to rush on Friday night, so that was fine. But it meant we didn't get up north until about 11:30pm!

Luckily, Grandma and Mike hadn't arrived yet either, so we were "on time" compared to the rest of the family. Ha ha. They arrived about 11:45, and we all visited for a little bit. Then Rob and I took Grandma over to her motel and dropped her off. We were amazed to see that her motel room had a candy vending machine in it. (The kind that you put a quarter in and turn the knob and a handful of candy falls down.) Both "barrels" were supplied with M&Ms. We surmised that if we suddenly had a famine, Grandma would be able to smash the glass and eat the M&Ms and survive. Hurrah!
on the boat All the fun really started on Saturday. We took a leisurely boat ride in the morning. We rode around the lake, and then into the channel. We didn't go all the way through the channel into Upper Lake Camelot, but it was a nice touring ride all the same. Dudley was especially cute, riding on the front seat with me and Rob, and resting his head on a towel on my lap the whole time. He likes going on the boat, but he doesn't like going fast. So a lot of the time, he cuddles up with us in the front.

After the boat ride, it was time to come home for lunch. We ate out on the deck. Cold cut sandwiches were the fare. Mmmm....While we were eating, Hilary arrived with Chris and Pete. We were SO excited to see them and to see Chris's new Mini Cooper! Without waiting an appropriate length of time, we headed back out in the boat. This time, it was Bill, Rob, me, Hilary, Chris, and Pete in the boat, and we were going FAST! We wore ourselves out tubing in the racecar thingy, then started trying to waterski. Some of us got up on the skis, some didn't...but I think we all had a fun time.

A delicious meal prepard by Mom followed our sojurn into the waters of Lake Camelot. Rob and I had originally planned to leave after dinner on Saturday, since we had to move some furniture on Sunday. But once dinnertime came around, we found we were too tired to leave. So we got to visit a little more by staying overnight again and leaving after breakfast in the morning. It was a great weekend, and I hope we keep up this fun family tradition!
