Think Pink!

Surprising Pam

In November, I was invited to a baby shower for Rob's Aunt Pam. She and her husband are expecting their first baby, and the whole family is excited for them! It was wonderful to get together with all of Rob's family. I spent a lot of time talking to his sister, Megan, and their cousin, Kristin. We are the "twentysomething" women in the family, and we love to talk girl talk. All the women in the family were there, including Rob's mom and grandma, and his Aunt Linda. Pam and Tim already know that their baby will be a girl, and they're going to name her Rachel. One more woman in the family! Hooray!!!

I rode over to the shower with Rob's mom and grandma. It was so fun traveling together! Rob's mom had purchased three dozen pink and white carnations, which were going to be given out as party favors at the shower. We picked them up on our way there, and set up a system for sprucing them up a little! Grandma cut lengths of pink and white ribbon in her lap in the front seat, then handed them back to me. I tied a two-ribbon bow on each flower stem. When we were done, they looked SO cute! I was very happy to get to help out in that way.

The baby shower was supposed to be a surprise for Pam. It was held at her in-laws' house, and the ruse was that her husband (Tim) was coming over with her for a family gathering. There was a slight problem with the whole surprise shower thing, though. Nowhere on the invitation did it say this was a surprise! I found out from Rob's mom, and kept my lips sealed! Not everyone was so lucky, though, and four different people "outed" the surprise to Pam before the big day. She was such a good sport, though...Pam acted suurprised and everything!

I think there were about 40 guests at the shower. The decorating theme was pink and white, which was just perfect for the occasion. It was a catered affair, with such a good spread! We had pork roast, and lots of different vegetables and salads. Mmmmm! After the meal, we all moved downstairs for Pam and Tim to open their presents. There were so many presents! Three huge piles of gifts were waiting for them. They graciously opened all the gifts, with Pam opening the presents and Tim reading all the cards. It's amazing how much stuff a little baby needs!

It was a very fun way to spend an afternoon. I can't wait to meet little Rachel!
